Boss Alfie Youngson was understandably delighted seeing his young charges reach the second round of the Scottish Junior Cup in convincing fashion after a 6-0 win at Newmains.
He said Last "Last weekend was a very good performance, considering our starting 11 had six teenagers and two 20 year olds it was a very mature display where we controlled most of the match."
It was no surprise that the boss signalled out Gavin Byers for praise after the striker scored five. Two of the goals came from more than 40 yards, but it was the tap-ins that pleased Aflie the most.
"Gavin Byers scored 5 goals in an outstanding personal display. I think most at the game will have been very impressed by Gavin's vision and accuracy in scoring two of his goals from at least 40 yards out but the most impressive goals for me was the two he scored from a combined total of 4 yards!
"I've been banging on at Gavin about getting in the right areas to score the tap ins that all good strikers need to score to win games for their team but also to boost their own personal goal tally's and on Saturday he did just that. Taking his tally to 8 so far this season from 5 starts for him and we hope that this can continue."
Alfie also signalled out 17 year old Ryan McLean who made his first start in what was an intimidating atmosphere.
"Also a special mention for Ryan McLean (one of 3 x 17 years olds in the starting 11) who made his first start for us and played beyond his years, and surprisingly for Ryzie......no yellow card!!"
Next up is the first round of the North Regional Cup and a visit from championship outfit Lossiemouth United, and with a potential trip to his former club Culter awaiting the winners, the boss is eager to reach the next round.
He said "This weekend is another tough cup game. Lossie are unbeaten in their league campaign for far and I'm sure will fancy their chances of advancing to the next round.
"The reward for winning this tie for either side would possibly be an away tie at Culter, a game we definitely want to be involved in, but as ever to win any game of football you have to earn the right with a performance and result on the pitch!"
